It used to be thought that if you lived out in the country everything would be quiet and peaceful. However, the latest Kent crime statistics reveal that the Thanet Villages are a dangerous place to live…
You would think that you would be far away from the danger of crime on the scale of that experienced by inner-city boroughs in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow, and more.
2,088 reported crimes in the Thanet Villages
Think again. Kent Police have just issued the latest crime figures for the year from June 2014 to May 2015 for the area known as Thanet Villages.
While this area includes Westgate-on-Sea and Birchington, it also includes a few very small villages such as St-Nicholas-At-Wade, Minster, Upstreet, Monckton, Manston and Cliffs End (which is not so much a village as just a residential area)
Would you believe that in the year in question there were 2,088 crimes reported to the police? Of those, 141 were burglaries. That’s 141 homes or businesses broken into which have had property stolen, in many instances families have lost items that are completely irreplaceable.
Let’s face it. If you own a business and it gets burgled, it is not exactly pleasant. However, you call the police, report it to your insurance company, they pay you for the loss and you just replace the stock. Not at all nice, but you are no worse off.
A Completely Different Matter
In the case of your home, it’s a completely different matter. In your house, there are things which are instantly replaceable, such as an HD TV for instance. However, there are other things which, while they can be replaced, are harder to deal with when they go missing.
Your mobile phone and tablet for example. You can get new ones, but can you retrieve all the information they contain? Can you remember everyone’s address, phone number, email address etc? We could go on, but you get the picture.
It gets worse…
What about the stuff that cannot be replaced? All the photos you had stored in your gallery? The diamond and garnet necklace that your Aunt left to you? The childhood photograph of you and your father?
Things That Cannot Be Replaced
These are things that can never be replaced, no matter how much money the insurance company pays out.
This is why it is so essential, even if you live out in the Thanet Villages, to ensure that you take every precaution to protect your home against burglary.
Sure, there’s an initial expense, but usually, this is offset by a discount on home insurance premiums.
If you live out in the sticks, it is probably even more important that any potential burglar sees that you have an alarm.
There are far fewer people about, and this often gives a burglar much more time to carry on at his leisure, knowing that he is not likely to be disturbed.
Installing proper security in the 21st century is not really an option. It is essential.
