It is evident from our last post that you don’t have to be wandering the streets late at night to get attacked. These thieves targeted victims on their own property!
To stay safe, follow our night-time safety tips to ensure you don’t attract unwanted attention.
These night-time safety tips could prevent you from being robbed – or worse!
- If you are walking by yourself at night, do not listen to music through headphones.
Listening to music through headphones is not only a road-safety hazard, but it also leaves you vulnerable to an attack.
When leaving your car, don’t interact with your mobile phone, mp3 player or any other device unless you really have to.
When you’re busy on the phone, you’re less aware of your surroundings. It also shows you have something worth stealing. Make any important calls, such as travel arrangements, from inside your car.
- If you plan to stay out late on the weekend, always make travelling arrangements with a friend.
This applies especially to young women. If you have been drinking, take some extra cash out and go halves on a cab with a trusted friend. Don’t attempt to walk home alone just to save money. Young and drunk women are the perfect target for robbery, or even worse.
- Make sure you keep your valuables in a safe place
Don’t leave your valuables hanging out of your back pocket… keep them in your jacket or in your bag. Keeping your valuables on display means that a thief can grab them and run before you’ve even noticed anything has gone!
If you are robbed of your possessions while you are out, you’re unlikely to see your valuables again. Thieves know the risk is much higher when stealing from people on the streets, so they’ll ensure they have a quick get-away plan.
On the other hand, if a burglar targets your home and breaks in, the CCTV footage will be able to identify the criminals and give you a better chance to reclaim your goods.
Protection is priceless
Unfortunately, it’s up to you to ensure your personal safety when you are out. However, with a Home CCTV System, we can keep a watchful eye on you and your property 24/7.
Similarly to a Burglar Alarm, CCTV provides a visual deterrent for burglars who are thinking about making your home a target. It can also prevent crimes from occurring in the homes around you.
If a burglar can clearly see that your camera is watching them, they will definitely not think to target your neighbour or the house across the street in fear that they will still be on tape.
