Although it’s not exactly the largest town in Kent, the latest burglary statistics for Deal should be worrying for local residents and businesses.

Between February 2014 and January 2015, there were no less than 153 burglaries in the area. Violence, sexual offences and anti-social behaviour also formed a significant part of crimes committed in Deal during this time.

Crime statistics confirm that virtually half of these crimes were committed in Deal alone. Burglary accounted for 14% of all other crimes, actually coming ahead of shoplifting!

Burglary statistics for Deal don’t alarm the police?

  •  Police recorded “no further action” in no fewer than 76.61% of all crimes
  •  In 25.6% of cases, they were “unable to prosecute the suspect”
  •  In 50.94% of cases, they recorded “no suspect identified”

This means that criminals in Deal have less than one in four chance of getting caught!

If that didn’t shock you, this will.

After a big spike in burglary levels during May and June last year, they then dropped to what police would probably describe as an “acceptable” level.

The only acceptable” level is none at all.

They then bounced back up in November and December but dropped to their lowest for over a year in January this year.

This could be due to the increased police patrols in the area after the tremendous jump in May and June last year, resulting in burglars being much more circumspect in their activities.

Deal residents take a stand

However, it’s much more likely that Deal residents and business owners took notice of the horrific burglary figures in May and June, and invested in a good security system.

Put yourself in the burglar’s shoes for a moment. Will you attempt to break into a house that has obvious security, or would you rather go for the house next door that has none? It’s a no-brainer!

The obvious answer is to take all the precautions that you can. You might not think you have possessions worth stealing, but a burglar may think differently.

It is simply not worth taking any risk that you don’t have to.
