It is a common misconception that having pets means you can’t have an intruder alarm in your home.

At Guardian Security and Fire we can install pet-friendly alarm systems that can differentiate between an unwanted intruder and the family’s favourite four-legged friend.

As a result, you can leave the house safe in the knowledge that it is fully alarmed and protected, whilst also leaving the family pet with a full range to roam the halls at their leisure.

Pet-Friendly Burglar Alarms

Our detectors work in a number of different ways, depending on the technology used.

  • Option 1 – Passive Infra-Red detectors can be calibrated to ignore particular sizes and shapes when looking at movement in a room, for example ignoring all objects below 45kg.
  • Option 2 – Others block out the detection below a certain height so that, effectively, the family dog or cat can pass underneath the passive infra detection without triggering the alarm.  This method has one flaw which is the ability of some pets to climb (cats) or fly (budgies).  It is our job as an NSI Gold Alarm Installer to install the detectors in the appropriate place and minimise this risk.  It is an art we have spent nearly 30 years perfecting.
  • Option 3 – Alternatively you can opt for the slightly more expensive option of Dual Technology detectors.  These have two sensors per detector, one heat and one movement, and require both to be triggered before a signal is passed back to the alarm panel.  This reduces the number of false alarms and can be advantageous for people with multiple and different-sized animals in their homes.
